This Privacy Policy explains how StageYou, Inc. (“StageYou,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information in connection with the StageYou website, applications, APIs, and related services (the “Platform”), an AI-powered Opportunity Intelligence Platform that helps individuals discover, navigate, prepare for, and realize educational, career, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning Opportunities.
This Policy applies to Users and other individuals who access or use the Platform, including prospective Users who interact with public-facing pages before registering, and, where applicable, a parent or guardian providing consent on behalf of a minor User. It is incorporated into, and should be read alongside, our Terms of Service, which define capitalized terms not otherwise defined here (e.g., Content, AI Output, Routing, Opportunity, Opportunity Partner, Development Partner).
This Policy does not apply to: (a) the separate websites, applications, or services of Opportunity Partners or Development Partners (such as universities, employers, scholarship providers, or accelerators), whose own privacy policies govern their handling of your information once you engage with them directly; (b) information you submit directly to a Partner outside the Platform; or (c) StageYou personnel, job applicants to StageYou itself, or B2B contacts at Partner organizations, who are covered by separate notices, if applicable.
Capitalized terms not defined in this Policy have the meanings given in the Terms of Service. In addition, for purposes of this Policy:
“Personal Data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual, as further defined by applicable data protection law (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA).
“Processing” means any operation performed on Personal Data, including collection, use, storage, disclosure, and deletion.
“Sensitive Personal Data” means categories of Personal Data subject to heightened protection under applicable law, which in the StageYou context may include academic records, disability or accommodation information voluntarily submitted for opportunity-matching purposes, financial-need information relevant to scholarships or funding, and, for minor Users, any data subject to child-specific data-protection rules.
“Sub-processor” means a third-party service provider engaged by StageYou to process Personal Data on our behalf.
Information You Provide
Account and identity information – name, email, phone, date of birth, password, and similar registration details.
Academic and professional information – academic records and transcripts, standardized test scores, degrees, work history, certifications, professional licensure numbers, and other Content you submit to your profile.
Aspirations and preferences – desired fields of study, countries, universities, career paths, entrepreneurship interests, funding needs, and Routing preferences you configure.
Assessment responses – answers, work samples, or other input you provide to Platform assessments.
Financial-need and scholarship information – where you choose to provide it to support scholarship or funding matching.
Communications – messages you send to StageYou support, survey responses, and any information you provide when you contact us.
Parental/guardian information – where required for a minor User, the name and contact details of a parent or legal guardian providing consent.
AI Output – profile analyses, pathway recommendations, matches, readiness scores, and personalised reports generated from your Content using StageYou’s proprietary models.
Routing records – logs of referrals, submissions, and introductions to Opportunity Partners and Development Partners, and their status.
Usage records – saved Opportunities, dashboard activity, and notification/alert preferences.
Usage data – pages and features viewed, search queries, clickstream, and session duration.
Device and technical data – IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and approximate location derived from IP address.
Cookies and similar technologies, as described in Section 12.
Information Opportunity Partners or Development Partners provide back to us about the status or outcome of a referral, application, or admission, where applicable.
Information from identity- or credential-verification providers, where such a feature is offered.
Publicly available academic or professional information (e.g., from institutional or professional registries), where used to supplement AI Output.
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
Platform delivery – to create and administer your account, operate core features, and personalize your experience across education, career, entrepreneurship, and lifelong-learning use cases.
AI Output generation – to generate profile analyses, pathway recommendations, matches (universities, courses, countries, scholarships, internships, employment, startup ecosystems), and readiness assessments.
Routing – to match, refer, submit, or introduce you to Opportunity Partners and Development Partners consistent with your preferences and the Terms of Service.
Communications – to send account, transactional, and service-related messages (including saved-opportunity notifications and alerts), and, where you have opted in, marketing communications about new features or opportunities.
Trust and safety – to verify identity and eligibility, detect and prevent fraud, misuse, or false credentials, and enforce our Terms of Service.
Security – to maintain the security, integrity, and availability of the Platform.
Legal compliance – to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Analytics and improvement – to analyse usage, troubleshoot issues, and improve the Platform and our AI models, including through aggregated or de-identified data that does not identify you.
We do not use your Content or AI Output for purposes unrelated to operating and improving the Platform without your consent, except as described in this Policy or required by law.
Where required by applicable law, we process personal information based on one or more lawful grounds, including:
Performance of a contract – to provide the Platform, generate AI Output, and facilitate Routing you request.
Consent – for certain optional features, marketing communications, processing of minors’ data (including parental consent, where applicable), and Sensitive Personal Data such as disability, financial-need, or academic-accommodation information, where required by law.
Legitimate interests – to improve the Platform, prevent fraud, ensure security, and generate AI Output, in each case balanced against your rights and interests.
Legal obligation – to comply with applicable law, regulatory requirements, and lawful requests from authorities.
The Platform uses AI and automated processing to generate AI Output — including profile analyses, pathway recommendations, and matching across education, career, entrepreneurship, and lifelong-learning Opportunities — based on the Content you provide, publicly available data, and StageYou’s proprietary models.
Purpose and limits – AI Output is generated to support your own decisions and to facilitate Routing. StageYou does not use AI Output to make final admissions, hiring, funding, licensing, or immigration decisions; those decisions remain with Opportunity Partners, Development Partners, regulators, or institutions.
Your rights – where applicable law grants rights regarding automated decision-making (such as the right to obtain human review, an explanation, or to contest a decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects), you may exercise those rights as described in Section 9.
Model training – we may use Content and AI Output, in aggregated or de-identified form where feasible, to train, test, and improve our models; where identifiable data is used for training, we will describe this and any opt-out in more detail in the final Policy.
Opportunity Partners and Development Partners – as part of Routing, including your profile, academic records, assessment results, and related Content, consistent with your account preferences and the Terms of Service.
Service providers and Sub-processors – vendors who perform functions on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, AI infrastructure, analytics, customer support, identity/credential verification, and payment processing, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
Legal, safety, and compliance – to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights and safety of StageYou, Users, or others, and investigate fraud or breaches of our Terms.
Corporate transactions – in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate safeguards and, where required, notice to you.
Aggregated or de-identified data – which does not identify you, for research, benchmarking, or reporting purposes.
With your consent or at your direction – for any other purpose you approve, including where you direct us to share information with a parent, guardian, counselor, or advisor.
We do not sell your Personal Data for money. Where required by applicable law (e.g., certain U.S. state privacy laws), we will describe any “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, if applicable, and provide any required opt-out mechanism.
Because the Platform serves Users globally across education, career, and entrepreneurship ecosystems, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, which may have different data protection laws than your home jurisdiction. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms, and we conduct transfer impact assessments where required.
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to: access the Personal Data we hold about you; correct inaccurate or incomplete data; delete your data; obtain a portable copy of your data; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and opt out of further Routing at any time through your account settings. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in Section 18. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity (or, for a minor User, the identity of the parent or guardian who provided consent) before acting on a request.
Given the breadth of the StageYou ecosystem, certain information you submit – such as academic records, disability or accommodation information, financial-need or scholarship-eligibility information, and, for minor Users, other categories of child-specific data – may constitute Sensitive Personal Data under applicable law. We collect and use this information only as necessary to enable opportunity matching, accommodation-aware features, and Routing, and, where required by law, we will obtain explicit consent (including, for minors, verifiable parental consent) before processing it. We do not use Sensitive Personal Data for advertising purposes.
We retain Personal Data only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Platform, fulfil the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and protect our legitimate business interests. Unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by applicable law, account and profile information is generally retained while your account remains active and for up to 24 months after account closure or your last interaction with the Platform, after which it is deleted or anonymized where appropriate. Records relating to opportunity matching, referrals, submissions, routing, applications, and related transactions may be retained for up to 7 years for contractual, compliance, audit, and dispute resolution purposes. Security, system, and access logs are generally retained for up to 12 months, after which they are deleted, anonymized, or aggregated unless required for security investigations or legal compliance. Personal Data relating to minor users is retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected and any required parental or guardian consent was provided, and is reviewed periodically for continued necessity. Where Personal Data is subject to a legal hold, investigation, litigation, regulatory request, or other legal obligation, it will be retained until the relevant matter has been resolved or applicable retention requirements have been satisfied, after which it will be securely deleted or irreversibly anonymized where practicable.
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect Personal Data against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, which may include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and authentication, network security monitoring, employee confidentiality obligations and training, and vendor security review. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a security incident affecting your Personal Data that requires notification under applicable law, we will notify affected individuals (and, for minor Users, their parent or guardian, where appropriate) and relevant regulators within the timeframes required by that law, and will describe the nature of the incident and steps taken in response.
We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
Strictly necessary – to operate core Platform functionality, such as authentication and security.
Functional – to remember your preferences, saved Opportunities, and settings.
Analytics and performance – to understand how the Platform is used and to improve it.
Marketing (if applicable) – to measure the effectiveness of communications, subject to your consent where required.
You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings and, where required by law, through an in-Platform cookie consent tool. Disabling certain cookies may affect Platform functionality.
Because certain educational guidance and opportunity discovery features offered through StageYou may be relevant to secondary school students and other minors, the Platform may be used by individuals below the age of legal majority, provided they meet the eligibility requirements set out in the Terms of Service and, where required by applicable law, have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children or other individuals who are not legally permitted to use the Platform, or from minors where the required parental or guardian consent has not been obtained. If we become aware that Personal Data has been collected in violation of this Policy or applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information and, where appropriate, suspend or terminate the associated account.
The Platform may link to, or facilitate Routing to, third-party websites, applications, or services operated by Opportunity Partners, Development Partners, or others (such as university application portals, scholarship-provider websites, or accelerator program sites). This Policy does not apply to those third-party services, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing information to them.
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices, the addition of new Opportunity types, features, or partner categories, or applicable law, and will provide reasonable notice of material changes as described in the Terms of Service, such as by email or an in-Platform notice, before the changes take effect.
